Many contractors will talk about safety, but at D. F. Tomasini Contractors, Inc. SAFETY IS A PRIORITY. We strive to abide by all safety regulations as they pertain to our industry. It is our policy to provide a healthy and safe place for all of our employees and the public.

ZERO JOBSITE ACCIDENTS at D. F. Tomasini Contractors, Inc. is an achievable goal through our three step process.

1. Training

It is important to train our employees to work safely and to identify potential hazards. We have weekly toolbox talks on the job site with all employees. In addition, we have training in the following specific areas:

  • 40 hour Hazwoper (OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120)
  • Competent Person Training
  • OSHA 10 Hour Training
  • Confined Space Training
  • Respirator Training
  • Hazard Communication

Equally important to these specific areas of safety training is the mind set that develops in our employees… Is what I am doing safe? How could I make it safer?

2. Safety Equipment

The safety equipment at D. F. Tomasini Contractors, Inc. meets or exceeds OSHA standards. Our safety equipment is meticulously maintained and continually upgraded. The following are some of the major components of our safety equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment… Each employee is required to wear a hard hat and reflective safety vest on the job site. All crews are also equipped with air monitoring devices that are regularly calibrated.

Lifting Devices and Rigging… We have invested in a wide variety of chains and wire ropes that are inspected prior to use. These devices are replaced when any amount of wear becomes evident.

Trench Shields and Protection… We have over 60 trench shields that are depth rated, professionally built and engineered for many different applications. We also use trench plates and hardwood sheeting for special situations.

Hydro-Vac Truck… Our Hydro -Vac truck is used to help with damage prevention associated with locating utilities, etc.

3. Management Commitment

A company commitment to safety must start at the top. You must provide your employees with the training and tools to work safely. The management team at D. F. Tomasini Contractors strives to lead by example. D. F. Tomasini Contractors, Inc. invests heavily into safety and OSHA compliance. Whether it is the weekly “tool box” safety talks, the monthly safety meetings with all employees, the competent person training, or their periodic job site safety inspections, D. F. Tomasini Contractors, Inc. has achieved positive results. Job site safety is important at D. F. Tomasini, all employees are present at safety meetings, including laborers, operators, foreman, superintendent, project managers, owners, and officers of the company.
